Happy
Post Solstice, Lovelies!
We TRUE
notherners understand the solstice. To
most, June 21-22 passes without notice, but to Alaskans, there is a bit of
sadness. Here in the mid-Atlantic, we
think, YAY! It’s officially summer! To Alaskans, it marks the last day before a slow decent into darkness.
...well, when you put it that way, it's not sad. It's downright morbid.
The solstice is
the longest day of the year, and from here to December 21-22, the world will
again slowly tilt away from the sun, we’ll lose daylight, and the world will
slowly get colder in the northern hemisphere.
As a
photographer, light is very important.
Right now, the best time to shoot is between 5:30-6:30am and 6:30-7:30pm. Light is low and even. It often has a beautiful golden glow.
I’m beginning
to think about late summer. I will host mini-sessions again as we have light
that lingers on the horizon for a bit longer—as is the case with light toward
the equinoxes (September and March).
Here is another family shoot from last October mini sessions that always makes me smile.
