Morning,
Lovelies!
Did you miss me
yesterday? I know I’ve been blogging
(nearly) every day here, and suddenly, I’m only blogging Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Welll… you can catch me blogging about
interior design and home over on our other blog— http://www.LoveOxido.com on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Today, I want
to tell you about my amazing wedding cake!

I have
something to admit to you--- I really don’t like wedding cake. I know, I know. As a wedding vendor, it should be as awesome
as water, but I’m not a fan. Most cakes
are dry, kind of hard, and the texture is gritty.
And... wedding cakes
need to be. Wedding cakes need to be
firm enough to stand up, unrefrigerated, for several hours. Many need to withstand the heat. The lower layers need to be dense and firm
enough to hold several tiers and a cake topper.
Nice, firm legos these cakes are.
Yuck. Okay, but they are pretty.
Somehow I
lucked into finding Hasna with Sugar Lips Confectionery. We were vendors together at several birthdays and a staged wedding… and she was willing to make a small cake that built upon my rustic garden theme.
Small was my request.
My husband
doesn’t like sweets. **At all.** (Weird,
right?) So, I asked Hasna to make the
top layer a strawberry shortcake. Light,
airy and the least “sweet” cake I could think of. The bottom was a chocolate ganache—a cake
that is naturally dense
When I put the
fondant covered strawberry shortcake in my husband’s mouth at the wedding, my
husband was grimacing. He did not want
to eat a sweet and was only doing it out of tradition. As he closed his mouth, he smiled! He didn’t kiss me and say, “I love you.” He kissed me and said, “This is actually…
delicious.”

My bite was
buttery smooth, naturally sweet and airy.
We actually ate our slices of wedding cake!
The chocolate
lovers oo’ed at gooeyness and flavor of the chocolate ganache layer, and the
strawberry shortcake was devoured.
All this, and
it’s from a home business. AND, it was
gorg. Do you see those cake flowers?!!
I’m not being
paid for this post, but I will include Hasna as my recommended vendor for
wedding cakes. Beautiful cake, the best
tasting cake I’ve ever had, AND a local mom-business? Done, done, done.
