How to Pick Your Photographer | Virginia Wedding Photographer

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Happy Tuesday, Lovelies!

Because we’re rounding the end of the super busy wedding season, and 2014 brides are booking their wedding photographers, I think we should discuss a few important points about how to select your wedding photographer.

For my wedding, photography was numero uno.  I’m not a big fan of wedding cake, and I knew my venue (a local park) would be open… so, first step was nailing down a date that worked with my family and the photographer.

With our date somewhat secured, we worked out our contract with our photographer and waited for paperwork to be finalized by our church.  Welllll, over 6 months before our wedding and without a signed contract, another couple booked **our** photographer.  Crap!

I searched all over for a replacement, but not finding one.  I changed my date.  That’s right, folks.  I changed my date for photography.

My mom had her suspicions we were putting off the wedding.  “Really, can’t you just find another photographer?  I know someone who takes great pictures of wildlife.  I’ll send you their contact info…. Are you sure everything’s ok?”

Yes, Mom!

If you’re reading my blog, we’re probably on the same page.  Photography is very important… but how do you find the “right” photographer for you?

First, you should like the photographer’s “eye.”  Like how they shoot and how they edit.

Secondly, you should really like your photographer’s personality.  You have to be with your photographer as you strip to get in your dress, go through the stress and joy of your day… and your photographer is with just you and your new husband or wife… alone… for the first 30 minutes-hour of you being newlyweds as you get your portraits.

Third-wheel awkward!

Or is it?  The photographer who is **your** match should make you feel anything but awkward and uncomfortable.  Spend some time one-on-one with your photographer.  An amazing photographer who makes you feel uncomfortable, will give your award-wining pictures of you looking uncomfortable.

And, because a post isn’t a post without a photograph… here’s something to tide you over until tomorrow!
