Woah, Woah,
Woah, Batman! An Indian chick won Miss
America?
Hells yeah!
Okay, so the US
has gone cray-cray because the first woman of India decent won the Miss America
pageant over a hunting-tattooed-Amy sergeant.
Look, I’ve never been much for pageants, but hunting, Army and tattoos
are only ONE segment of America.
This whole
“controversy” came at a very interesting time for me. Branding is a huge trend in the world of
photographers right now, and I’m not quite sold on it. It can be as much as $2,000 to hire a company
to develop the right branding for you, so that you attract and retain clients
that meet your brand.
I’m not sold on
it because I ENJOY diversity. Some
photographers brand themselves as barn-wedding-photographers,
hotel-ballroom-photographer, etc.
If I did the
same thing every weekend, I’d be out of this business in no time. I’d loose my brain. Someone at the expo asked me if I “did”
diversity. Ha! “It’s kind of my thing,” I told her as I
showed her some of my work.
So, branding is
a little like Miss America to me. Think
about it. Miss New York, now the reining
Miss America, did a Bollywood-fusion dance as her talent. EVERYONE is going to be up in arms if she
does another “Indian” dance for the Miss World Competition.
Kinda like the Miss
France Miss America preforming a ballet.
Or, Miss
Italy Miss America preforming an opera.
Miss New York
needs to brand her diversity as America’s diversity.
Me… well, I
need to think about how I want to communicate my photography message.
Hmmm…. Off to
ponder.

I love that you embrace diversity. I loved all the comments about how haut Jenna and I are (cuz we are!). I love that you know how to take the shots and the quality of your work is outstanding. As long as you are getting clients, word of mouth is going to keep you going. I can't imagine there are a lot of clients who haven't said fabulous things about you.
