Happy
Wednesday, Lovelies!
Today, I have a
special shoot for you! As you might
recall, I’m an Alaskan political wonk. I
freakin’ love Alaskans. Unpretentious,
out-of-their-way-kind, and damn it! We
make clogs look sexy! (See here: Heard on the Hill)
My involvement
in the DC-area Alaska community introduced me to Moire. This lady’s super cool, folks! Motivated, unafraid, a go-getter with a heart
of gold and infectious personality.
I remember one
night while chatting about DC dating over wine at Sonoma Restaurant and Wine
Bar on Capitol Hill, she told me about Jason.
Jason was different. We giggled
about politics, politicos and movies, but when she talked about Jason, even
though they’d just met… there was that calm wistful smile and twinkle in her
eye.
Jason and Moire worked on Capitol Hill, but their paths
had never crossed there. One evening, Jason helped a friend move a couch, and
in his politico-meets-moving man-moment, he met Moire. Moire told me she doesn’t remember much of a
conversation. He’s a pretty shy
guy. Apparently, Jason remembers an enchanting
conservation that had him hooked.
Here’s where I should pause and offer a little insight into what
happens next. Alaskan women drink scotch/
whiskey, bourbon and cognacs. Sorry
ladies, but ewww! I don’t know of
another area of the country where women do.
Some Alaska women may be shaking their head in opposition to my assertion
that Alaskan women drink whiskey, but think Duck Fart, ladies. You all drink them.
Alaskan women drink Duck Farts (a shot of whiskey, Kahlua and
Bailey’s). Everywhere else, they drink B52s
(Bailey’s, Kahlua and an orange liqueur like Grand Marnier on Cointreau).
Back to the story….
Jason noticed Moire was drinking something dark and inquired. She
responded, "It's scotch. I love scotch!" Jason was a little shocked, but left the
apartment and decided he wanted to see Moire again. The next day he sent her a
bottle of scotch with a note saying "I'd like to take you to drinks.
-Jason"
The grand gesture bought a huge smile to Moire’s face that night she
told me about it over wine at Somona. They
started dating shortly there after and fell in love over their first date to a
corn maze, many Capitals games, vacations around the country and to Mexico,
football games at the Big House in Ann Arbor, and cozy nights at home.
Years later,
that twinkle in her eye turned into a sparkly on her finger, and I’m so happy
that Moire and Jason found one another.
A great pair!
They're getting married on summer solstice in Alaska where they will
be surrounded by many family and friends.
Here are some of our engagement photos… setting the stage for their
blue and gold (Alaska’s colors!) wedding.
