Hello, Lovelies!
I hope you enjoyed MLK Day and the inauguration. Our family had a blast!
We picked up tickets to the swearing in ceremony through
Senator Mark Warner’s office. Warner’s
office staff was great. We showed up
with a squirmy 6 year old and a tired 2 year old. The staff walked us through the ticket
information while the girls offered the Warner staff cookies. Their own cookies.
The long weekend also gave me an opportunity to catch up
on some editing. About a week ago, I was
so lucky to sit down with the staff of the Beekeeper’s Cottage. These ladies rock!
Okay, so have you been to Lucketts, VA? If you like funky furniture like me, this
area is your Mecca, too. So many cool
interior designers in the area. The Beekeepers
Cottage sells furniture, but they also sell FUN, vintage-inspired jewelry. In search of bridesmaid gifts and my own
wedding jewelry, I knew I needed to check them out.
I’ve split the post into two. Here’s some info about the Beekeepers Cottage
in their own words with our Snow White inspired shoot. A romantic 1920s shoot coming next Wednesday with some ofmy thoughts.
As a note, I am never paid for these posts. I only post because I want to share the cool
small business owners in the DC-area.
Check out their Facebook page here.

Beekeeper's Cottage is a rare gem of a shop with
its butter yellow exterior and whimsical red and white
polka-dotted shutters. For the better part of a decade, Beekeeper's
Cottage has been featured in a variety of design publications such as
Romantic Homes, Better Homes and Gardens, and most recently, The
Washington Post Sunday Magazine. It's chock-full of wondrous
surprises! From the first step in, it delights the eyes
with shimmering vintage inspired costume jewelry, fashion
accessories, exotic lotions and potions, sumptuous linens, and many
other romantic furnishings for the stylishly-hip modern woman
and delightfully spoiled home!
Nancy and I started our business 16 years ago. WOW!
Is that possible??? Pinch me!!! We're best friends and building this business
is a source of endless joy and creativity. We feel so lucky to do what we
LOVE!!! It is our passion!! To rescue, restore and give new life to vintage
furniture pieces, hunt for the most MAGNIFICENT home accessories, and
find exquisite baubles for girls of all ages! We are grateful and
humbled each time we hear someone say, "This is my favorite shop!".
This season we're got sensational vintage
inspired 1920s bling worthy of F.S. Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and
pieces that would be at home in the jewelry boxes of the
resplendent ladies at Downton Abbey. (We LOVE that show!! Did you hear
the interviews with the actors on NPR this week?? So FUN!!)
The stunning pieces we selected for Saturday's shoot,
channel an age of confident elegance. The roaring 20s was a time of great self
discovery. Women embraced a new found freedom and fashion followed with
a sleek, sophisticated edge. Luminous peals, dazzling rhinestones
and designs that shouted a new artfulness. Hotsy-totsy!!! We
believe the grand emerald green and sapphire blue cut glass necklaces are
wonderful examples of this period. From their glowing center stones
to the faceted burnish surround, these necklaces rock!!! There's also
a ravishing collection of collars, bracelets, earrings and
rings. The fit is amazing and soooooo regal! Gracefully demure to bold
enchantress, you can create your own sublime style! We
just LOVE helping our clients find the PERFECT jewelry for their
big day!
