Many of you emailed asking for suggestions on what you wear for your fall photo shoots. I’m starting a mini-series on “What to Wear.” I’ll start this week with what I know best- Toddler Girls! Next week, we’ll be featuring one of my favorite fashion bloggers, John Michael!
I’m a lover of fashion, and if you know my daughter, you know that she’s usually way over dressed to play in the mulch at her school. Ok, “school” is a liberal use of the word. She’s two, but she has a math and English teacher, so we’ll call it a “school.”
You can get a lot of bang for your buck with toddler girl clothes, and a photo shoot is a fun excuse to splurge! Overdress your kids for photo shoots. Here are some general guidelines to follow:
- Clothes should be comfortable, and your daughter should love her outfit. Tutus are perfect any season!
- Think layers and dress warmly. If your daughter is cold, even to look cute, the photos will show her discomfort. Consider a hat!
- Stay away from logos. Logos can look tacky, and the real focus should be your child’s beautiful face!
- Consider packing a change of clothes—kids are kids. Peeing, puking, and spills are Murphy’s Law, right?
- Especially if you’ll post your photos online (i.e. Facebook), avoid plaids of a tight/ small pattern or thin stripes. Thick stripes and large plaids are smashing, but the small version can look psychedelic on a screen.
- White collars brighten faces, but white shirts often “pull light” away from your child’s beautiful face. I recommend pops of white and look for creams if you’re interested in a white-white.
My favorite stores for the high fashion toddler are Zara, H&M and Etsy. I need to buy stock in H&M…
